HI, MY NAME IS RUNZE ZHANG, AN ARCHITECTURE MASTER WHO WORKS IN CREATIVE TECH.
After a 7-year journey in architecture, instead of becoming an Architect, I decide to be a Creative Technologist. Since middle school, I've started coding with VB and been familiar with software like Photoshop and Illustrator. I had been majoring in Mathematics before I transferred my major to Architecture. As a student in the ‘parametric era’ of design software, I believe that architects are technologists before they are designers. I started looking into software and technologies that could connect my architectural design approach with my love of multidisciplinary thinking and learning.
My favorite digital medium is AR, because it provides a creative way to merge existing visual context and spatial experience. This idea piqued my curiosity to think about how spaces within a three-dimensional realm can be reconnected through interaction, and this became the origin of my grad thesis Games of Deletion. In this lovely city, LA, thanks to SCIArc, I had the opportunity to join studios and courses dealing with AR/VR and equipped myself with skills in Unity and C# where I feel empowered. Being shortlisted in Best AR app during hackathons at both USC CreatingReality 2018 and MIT RealityVirtually 2019 gives me the confidence and a bunch of passionate friends to explore in this direction.
Currently, I am a Creative Technologist at Kilograph, a creative architectural visualization firm, and am responsible for the AR/VR Tech R&D. I am also co-founder of Doorwi and guest curator of A+D museum.
